GI Joe Classified Series Sub-Lines: Night Force, Tiger Force, Python Patrol & More

Every GI Joe Classified Series sub-line explained — Night Force, Tiger Force, Python Patrol, Iron Grenadiers, Steel Corps, Mad Marauders, and more. Every figure in each programme with buying advice and display context.

GI Joe Classified Series Sub-Lines: The Complete Guide

Sub-lines are the Classified Series’ most rewarding collector investment. Where standard retail gives you individual characters, sub-lines give you programmes — coherent visual identities built across multiple figures over multiple years that create something greater than the sum of their parts. A single Night Force figure is a dark repaint. Eight Night Force figures displayed together as a covert operations unit is a faction.

The Classified programme has developed six major sub-lines and several smaller ones since 2020. This page covers all of them: what each sub-line is, every figure in it, where to find them, and which ones are worth prioritising.

Night Force (Walmart Exclusive)

What it is: The Classified programme’s most fully realised sub-line. Night Force is the Joe team’s covert operations unit — dark colour scheme, night vision equipment, special missions that don’t make the official record. Every Night Force figure in the Classified programme is a Walmart exclusive, which means faster sell-through and stronger secondary market premiums than any other sub-line.

The concept: Night Force was originally a 1988 vintage sub-line — a Toys R Us exclusive that gave collectors dark-colour-scheme versions of existing Joe team members. The Classified programme has rebuilt it as a sustained Walmart exclusive programme with consistent visual identity: near-black or very dark base colours, muted highlights, and the implied operational context of operators who work in darkness.

Every Night Force Classified figure:

Display: Eight figures in coordinated dark colour schemes, displayed as a covert operations unit. This is the Classified programme’s most visually cohesive sub-line display — the identical packaging treatment across all Walmart releases creates a visual unity that the main retail figures can’t match.

Buying advice: Night Force figures sell through at Walmart faster than any other exclusive channel. Act at launch. The two-figure sets at $54.97 are the best value per Night Force purchase. Wolf Spider and Shooter command the highest secondary market premiums — both have been difficult to find at retail since launch.

Secondary market: Singles run $35–60. Two-figure sets run $65–95. Wolf Spider specifically has been trading at $50–75 for some time.

Tiger Force (Target Exclusive)

What it is: The Joe team’s elite sub-unit in yellow, orange, and black tiger-stripe colours. Tiger Force is Target’s sustained Joe team sub-line — the most visually aggressive colour scheme in the Classified programme, immediately recognisable at display distance.

The concept: Tiger Force was a 1988 vintage Hasbro sub-line — bright yellow and black stripe repaints of existing figures sold as a themed elite unit. The Classified programme rebuilt it as a Target exclusive starting in 2022, and it has since become the most complete Target sub-line with eight figures including two vehicle sets.

Every Tiger Force Classified figure:

Display: Eight figures in matching yellow/black/orange across a range of body types and specialisations. Two vehicles — the RAM Cycle and Tiger Paw ATV — give the sub-line vehicular mobility. Tiger Force is the Classified programme’s most complete Joe team sub-line display.

Buying advice: Tiger Force single figures sell through at Target over several weeks. Vehicle sets sell faster. The Roadblock/Tripwire/M.A.C.L.E.O.D. three-pack is exceptional value. The sub-line’s later additions (Flint, Wreckage) are generally easier to find than the 2022-2023 launches.

Secondary market: Standard single figures run $28–40. Vehicle sets run $65–95. The 2022 Outback runs highest among singles given age.

Python Patrol (Target Exclusive)

What it is: Cobra’s sub-faction in distinctive scale-print camouflage. Python Patrol is Target’s Cobra-side answer to Tiger Force — eight figures across four years giving collectors a visually distinct Cobra army builder sub-programme.

The concept: Python Patrol was a 1989 vintage sub-line — scale-print snake-skin patterned repaints of Cobra figures. The Classified programme rebuilt it as a Target exclusive starting in 2022, primarily repurposing army builder tooling and adding specialist figures with the Python Patrol visual identity.

Every Python Patrol Classified figure:

Display: Eight figures in coordinated scale-print camouflage spanning infantry, elite, command, specialist, and aerial tiers. The Python Patrol display communicates a Cobra sub-faction with its own visual identity distinct from both the standard blue Cobra army and the Crimson Guard elite programme.

Buying advice: Python Patrol army builders (Viper, B.A.T.) are worth buying multiples for the formation display. The Tele-Viper with Flight Pod is the best single Python Patrol purchase value. The 2024 additions are generally easier to find than the 2022 launches.

Secondary market: Singles typically run $28–42. The Tele-Viper with Flight Pod runs $50–70.

Iron Grenadiers (Standard Retail)

What it is: Destro’s private military force — distinct from both standard Cobra infantry and the named villain tier. The Iron Grenadiers are Cobra’s corporate military sub-faction, answerable to Destro and M.A.R.S. Industries rather than Cobra Commander. Dark uniforms with gold and silver accents communicate corporate military rather than government military.

The programme: Unlike Night Force, Tiger Force, and Python Patrol which are retail sub-line repaints, the Iron Grenadiers are a distinct faction with unique tooling and a dedicated command structure. The sub-line has five figures delivering complete force structure: commander, anti-tank specialist, rank-and-file infantry, android support, and a command vehicle.

Every Iron Grenadier Classified figure:

Display: The complete Iron Grenadier display — Destro at the centre, Darklon flanking, four to six Iron Grenadier infantry, two Iron Grenadier B.A.T.s at the flanks, Metal-Head with anti-tank weapon at the front. The gold-and-dark palette creates the strongest visual contrast against the standard Cobra blue in a mixed villain display.

Buying advice: Buy four to six Iron Grenadier infantry figures for the formation. The army builder economics at $24.99 are accessible. The Despoiler vehicle set is the premium purchase that gives Destro his vehicle context.

Steel Corps (Multi-Channel)

What it is: The Joe team’s generic infantry programme — the rank-and-file that supports the named characters. Unusual among sub-lines in being spread across three different channels across three releases.

Every Steel Corps Classified figure:

Display: Steel Corps Troopers in formation, Commander at the front, Sentry in the defensive position. The three-release structure gives the sub-line complete tactical architecture: rank-and-file, command, and defensive infrastructure.

Buying advice: The Troopers pack first — formation without infantry is just a commander standing alone. The Sentry & Defense Post is the sub-line’s most visually distinctive purchase, adding a display dimension that no other Joe team figure provides.

Smaller Sub-Lines

Alpha Commandos (Fan Channel) The Fan Channel sub-line for premium Snake Eyes and Timber sets. Snake Eyes & Timber: Alpha Commandos #30 (Fan Channel, 2021, $44.99) was the first Classified Timber and remains the go-to Snake Eyes companion figure set.

Mad Marauders (Retail/Pulse) The Mad Marauders are a Joe team sub-group led by Sgt. Slaughter. Mad Marauders Low-Light, Spirit & Niyol #128 (Pulse, 2024, $59.99) delivers three distinct Mad Marauders members with Niyol the wolf companion. Mad Marauders Sgt. Slaughter #129 (retail, 2024) is the team’s colourway Slaughter.

Crimson Programme (PulseCon) The Crimson Guard’s elite tier at convention premium. Crimson Strike Team: Baroness, Tomax & Xamot #82 (PulseCon 2023, $89.99) delivers the Crimson Guard command structure in coordinated ceremonial uniform — the most visually striking of the PulseCon exclusives.

Ninja Force (Target) Ninja Force Zartan #192 (Target, 2026) introduces the Ninja Force sub-line to the Classified programme. The 1992 vintage sub-line’s Classified debut.

Cobra-La (Retail/NYCC) The serpentine civilisation behind Cobra, new to the Classified programme in 2026. Cobra-La Pythona #172 (NYCC 2026) and Cobra-La Royal Guard #191 (retail 2026) establish the sub-faction’s Classified presence.

Which Sub-Line to Build First

Best single-purchase sub-line: Tiger Force. Eight figures and two vehicles, all Target exclusive, systematic and sustained. If you’re building one sub-line from scratch, Tiger Force has the most complete programme.

Best army-building sub-line: Python Patrol or Night Force. Python Patrol gives you the most army builder variety at reasonable prices. Night Force gives you the most visually striking dark display.

Best faction-building sub-line: Iron Grenadiers. A complete villain-faction display with unique tooling, distinct visual identity, and a logical command structure from infantry to vehicle.

Best value per purchase: Steel Corps Troopers multi-figure pack, Tiger Force Roadblock/Tripwire/M.A.C.L.E.O.D. three-pack, or Night Force two-figure sets. All deliver two or more distinct figures per purchase at better per-figure economics than single releases.
