Overview
The Ahsoka Tano & HK-87 Carbonized 2-Pack is an Amazon-exclusive set released in Fall 2023 featuring two Ahsoka series characters with a distinctive shiny “Carbonized” paint finish. Amazon exclusive at $59.99 for the pair. Both figures are repaints of their respective mainline releases with a metallic sheen applied across the body — Ahsoka with a slightly shiny skin tone, HK-87 with a shiny droid chassis finish. The set is sold as a single unit and the two figures are not available separately.
What the Carbonized Finish Actually Is
The Carbonized finish is a metallic sheen applied to an existing figure’s paint application. It’s not screen-accurate — neither Ahsoka Tano nor the HK-87 assassin droids appear with a shiny metallic quality on screen. The shiny paint doesn’t fit into dioramas or standard displays the way screen-accurate figures do. The Carbonized finish is best understood as a collector novelty and display variant rather than an upgrade, in the same spirit as the Credit Collection artistic repaints. The shiny paint is less pronounced in person than it appears in product photos, but it’s still there and still reads as non-canonical.
Ahsoka Tano (Carbonized)
Ahsoka’s Carbonized release is her sixth appearance in the Black Series in the span of roughly two years — a frequency that underlines the character’s commercial importance to Hasbro’s Ahsoka series push. The figure is a repaint of the 2022 Mandalorian-era Ahsoka with the slightly shiny Carbonized skin tone applied.
14 joints. Ball-jointed neck, ball-jointed shoulders, ball-jointed elbows, ball-jointed wrists, ball-jointed waist, ball-jointed hips, ball-jointed knees, ball-jointed ankles. Below the Phase 4 baseline — consistent with the compact Ahsoka source body’s articulation tier.
Two accessories: a long lightsaber with removable blade and a short lightsaber with removable blade. The lightsaber hilts hang from the knobs on Ahsoka’s kama — the same stowage engineering as the standard Mandalorian-era Ahsoka. Both weapons can be held well in either hand. The photo-real portrait looks good. The range of head movement is surprisingly good despite the plastic head-tail. No removable parts on the figure beyond the lightsaber blades. Stands well without falling over.
HK-87 (Carbonized)
HK-87 is the more mechanically interesting figure in the 2-pack — the 2023 mainline HK-87 source body (id=30695) has better articulation than the Ahsoka source body, and the Carbonized repaint inherits all of it.
21 joints. Ball-jointed top neck, swivel lower neck, butterfly-jointed shoulders, ball-jointed shoulders, ball-jointed elbows, ball-jointed wrists, ball-jointed upper body, ball-jointed hips, swivel thighs, swivel joints above knees, swivel joints below knees, ball-jointed ankles. Above-baseline through butterfly shoulders.
Two accessories: a blaster and half of a soft-goods robe. The blaster fits well into both hands with index fingers on the trigger — trigger-finger engagement on both hands. The soft-goods robe is removable.
The shiny paint out of place critique applies here too — the HK-87 assassin droids are never seen with a shiny metallic finish on screen in the Ahsoka series, and the Carbonized finish departs from their established visual. The sculpt itself looks great; it’s specifically the Carbonized paint choice that’s the issue.
Loose ankle joints — HK-87 had very loose ankle joints which made it difficult to pose properly. This is a recurring QC pattern across every HK-87 Black Series release. The Carbonized version inherits the same ankle instability from the mainline source body. It’s the single most consistent negative across the HK-87 character class in the Black Series.
The $59.99 2-Pack Value Question
At $59.99 for the pair, the per-figure implied cost is around $30 — above the 2023 standard Black Series single-card pricing. What you’re paying for is the Carbonized finish, the 2-pack packaging, and Amazon exclusivity. Neither figure includes meaningful engineering upgrades over their respective mainline releases. The HK-87 Carbonized is the structurally more interesting half given the butterfly shoulders and 21-joint count, but the loose ankle issue carries over. For collectors who don’t specifically want the Carbonized novelty finish, the standard releases deliver the same characters in more display-appropriate colours at lower per-figure cost.
Who This Is For
The 2-pack works for collectors who want the Carbonized variant specifically as a shelf novelty alongside standard releases, who are building a complete Ahsoka series Black Series set including exclusive variants, or who want the HK-87 with the soft-goods robe in the Carbonized format. It’s not the recommended entry point for either character for general display purposes — the standard Ahsoka and HK-87 mainline releases are the better screen-accurate display choices.
Secondary Market
Amazon exclusive 2-pack, Fall 2023. Available on the secondary market. Verify both lightsaber hilts, both removable blades, the HK-87 blaster, and the soft-goods robe half are present. The small lightsaber blades are the most easily lost components in transit.
Verdict
The Ahsoka Tano & HK-87 Carbonized 2-Pack is a collector novelty with a clear-eyed honest assessment: the Carbonized finish is the entire proposition, neither figure has never appeared on screen with this look, and the HK-87’s loose ankle joints are a consistent class-wide QC issue that affects display stability. The HK-87’s butterfly shoulders and 21-joint articulation are genuinely above-baseline, the dual lightsaber kama-knob stowage on Ahsoka works cleanly, and the soft-goods robe on HK-87 is a nice removable accessory detail.
Buy this if you collect the complete Ahsoka series Black Series including Amazon exclusives, if the Carbonized metallic novelty finish appeals for a dedicated display shelf, or if you want the soft-goods-robed HK-87 configuration. Skip if you want screen-accurate display figures for either character — get the standard mainline releases instead.
The Togruta Jedi and her assassin droid adversary in Carbonized silver. Ahsoka’s sixth Black Series release in two years, HK-87’s persistent loose ankles, and a metallic finish neither character wore on screen. Amazon exclusive 2-pack, Fall 2023.
