Finn (FN-2187) — Star Wars The Black Series #17

The Black Series Finn FN-2187 in First Order Stormtrooper armour — Red Line #17, 2016. The defection moment configuration with damaged helmet, F-11D blaster. The second of four Black Series Finn releases.

Overview

Red Line #17 is Finn in his First Order Stormtrooper armour — specifically the FN-2187 designation, the configuration that covers the opening sequences of TFA before the Jakku jacket identity takes over. This figure captures Finn at the moment of his defection: still in Stormtrooper armour, distinguishable from any other FO trooper only by the specific blood-smear on the helmet from where his fellow trooper FN-2003 died, and by the body language of a man deciding in real time to make a choice the entire system he grew up in told him was impossible.

This is the second Finn figure in the Red Line sequence. #01 Finn (Jakku) covers what he becomes after the defection; this figure covers the moment of becoming itself. The two figures together tell the complete Finn TFA arc in plastic. MSRP $19.99.

The Significance of the Damaged Helmet

The specific detail that makes this figure collector-interesting is the blood mark on the helmet — the handprint left by FN-2003, Finn’s squadmate who dies in the Tuanul village raid. FN-2003 reaches toward Finn in his last moments and leaves the mark. It’s the one thing that makes this specific FN-2187 distinguishable from any other First Order Stormtrooper in the raid, and it’s the detail that Poe Dameron notices when he first encounters Finn — identifying him as the Stormtrooper who hesitated.

This specific detail — the mark that makes the anonymous trooper an individual — is the key to the figure’s display value. Without it, this would be a First Order Stormtrooper #04 with a different number. With it, it’s a specific person making a specific choice at a specific moment.

Accessories

F-11D blaster rifle. The armoured configuration with the specific helmet detail is the display focus rather than accessory variety.

Articulation: 23 points via the Stormtrooper body scheme — same engineering as the FO Stormtrooper base figure.

The Finn Configuration Arc

All four Finn figures tell sequential aspects of the same arc: FN-2187 in armour before the defection; Finn Jakku #01 in Poe’s jacket after; Finn First Order Disguise (2017) in stolen First Order officer coat from TLJ; Finn TFA GC (2021) in updated Jakku configuration with Photo Real portrait. Display all four and you have Finn’s physical journey across two films rendered in figures.

Secondary Market

Available at or near original retail. The damaged helmet detail maintains specific collector interest. No significant production variants documented.

Verdict

Buy for the specific defection moment display, the complete Finn arc alongside #01 Jakku Finn, or Red Line sequence completion. The blood-mark helmet detail is the figure’s distinguishing characteristic and display purpose.

The FN-2187 Blood Mark as Collector Detail

The specific detail that justifies the FN-2187 Stormtrooper Disguise figure as a purchase distinct from the standard First Order Stormtrooper #04 is the blood mark on the helmet. In the film, FN-2003 reaches toward Finn in his last moments and leaves a handprint. This mark is the specific thing that makes Finn identifiable in the anonymous army — it’s literally the fingerprint of his individuality breaking through the system designed to eliminate it.

Collectors who display the Red Line Finn arc across multiple figures — #01 Jakku jacket, this FN-2187 armour, and optionally #17 First Order Disguise from TLJ — can create a display that shows Finn’s entire physical journey: from the armour of the First Order soldier he was, through the jacket of the civilian identity he chose, to the coat of the Resistance operative he became. Three figures, one arc.

The Stormtrooper Body for FN-2187

Unlike the Han Solo Stormtrooper Disguise which reused the Sandtrooper body, the FN-2187 figure uses First Order Stormtrooper engineering — which means no visible backpack socket issue and the correct FO armour proportions for the character.

Collector Notes

Available at or near original retail. No significant variants documented.

The FN-2187 armour figure and the #01 Jakku Finn figure can be displayed at opposite ends of a shelf to communicate the complete defection arc visually. FN-2187 at the left: the First Order soldier in armour, one among thousands of identical troopers. Finn at the right: the individual in the leather jacket, carrying a name someone gave him and a choice he made himself. The physical distance between the two figures on a shelf becomes a narrative distance — the space between who he was assigned to be and who he chose to become.

The FN-2187 designation itself is worth a brief examination for new collectors. FN is the unit prefix; 2187 is the specific identification number assigned to this conscript. The number 2187 is a deliberate callback by JJ Abrams: in the original A New Hope, Princess Leia is imprisoned in cell 2187 on the Death Star. The callback connects Finn’s specific identity number to the most famous prisoner in the franchise — a detail that suggests the film’s creators were thinking about generational connections from the naming phase of production.

The specific display pairing this figure enables that no other combination achieves: FN-2187 in armour on the left, Finn Jakku #01 in the leather jacket on the right. The blood-mark helmet visible on the armoured figure and the jacket clearly identifiable on the civilian figure create an implicit before-and-after: the same person, two identities, the specific moment between them where the choice was made. No other two-figure pairing in the Red Line wave carries that level of internal narrative without additional context. The two Finn figures are one story told in matched objects.

For the complete Finn arc display across all four Black Series releases: this FN-2187 armour figure is followed by #01 Jakku jacket (the defection aftermath), then Finn First Order Disguise (2017) (the TLJ stolen officer coat), then Finn TFA GC (2021) (the Photo Real Jakku update). Four figures, four phases, one character’s complete journey from conscript to hero rendered in the Black Series format across six years of production.
