Overview
The Gamorrean Guard is a Target exclusive released towards the end of July 2018 at $29.99 — $10 above standard single-card pricing, a premium the source documentation states plainly is worth it. The first realistic 6” Black Series Gamorrean Guard, representing the pig-like, axe-wielding bouncers from Jabba’s palace in Return of the Jedi. Rereleased for the ROTJ 40th anniversary in Kenner-inspired packaging (id=30522). 20 joints — including a swivel jaw that opens, which is the figure’s most distinctive articulation feature.
The Swivel Jaw
The jaw can be opened. This is a specific display benefit called out in the source documentation: if you have multiple Gamorrean Guards on a display shelf, the jaw articulation lets you vary each one — some with open mouths, some closed. A simple but effective differentiator for army builders.
Three Weapons
Vibro staff — good fit in both hands; the figure is capable of holding it with both hands simultaneously.
Axe — fits perfectly.
Hatchet — fits perfectly.
All three weapons fit the Gamorrean Guard’s hands well. The primary weapon the character carries on screen is the vibro staff or axe — having three options gives solid display flexibility.
Build and Sculpt
The helmet is not removable. The harness across the chest is a separate piece that can be moved around but isn’t designed to come off. The fur around the lower body is the same — movable but permanent. Shoulder bells are not removable and limit arm elevation range; head movement feels limited, but has enough range for up/down and left/right. The sculpt is described as beautifully done and a spot-on representation of the character from Return of the Jedi. Subtle weathering and dirt on the outfit, face painted very well. No balancing issues.
Secondary Market
Target, late July 2018. Three accessories: vibro staff, axe, hatchet. Confirm all three are present — they’re different enough in shape to distinguish on a loose purchase.
Verdict
Gamorrean Guard is one of the better $29.99 exclusives in the programme — three weapons all fit well, an openable jaw that adds real display value, beautiful ROTJ-accurate sculpt, and a justified $10 premium. If you’re building a Jabba’s Palace display, buy multiples and vary those jaws.
