The Black Series Han Solo (POTF2) — 50th Anniversary, 2021. Hasbro Pulse / ShopDisney exclusive, $26.49. 19 joints. Blaster, removable vest, removable belt, Stormtrooper blaster, Stormtrooper belt. Photo-real face update over 2013 original. No extra hands. Subtle clothing wash. 1995 Power of the Force inspired packaging.
Overview
Han Solo (POTF2) is a Hasbro Pulse and ShopDisney exclusive in the Black Series 50th Anniversary sub-line, released in September 2021 at $26.49. This is a re-release of the 2013 Black Series Han Solo with a photo-real face update and 1995 Power of the Force inspired packaging — and it comes with five accessories, making it the most generously equipped figure in the 50th Anniversary POTF2 tribute tier.
The extra set of hands that came with the original 2013 release is absent here. The photo-real face update is present and looks good in person, even if it appears slightly pixelated in close-up photography. Han stands well on display without balance issues.
Articulation
19 joints. Ball-jointed neck, swivel neck, ball-jointed shoulders, ball-jointed elbows, ball-jointed wrists, ball-jointed waist, ball-jointed hips, swivel thighs, swivel joints above the knees, swivel joints below the knees, ball-jointed ankles.
The dual neck articulation — ball plus swivel — gives Han useful head range for the variety of poses his character occupies: the casual lean against the cantina booth, the draw posture, the Stormtrooper disguise infiltration stance. The ball-jointed waist adds the slight body twist that makes standing poses read as active rather than static. The figure holds all of these without stability issues.
Accessories
5 accessories. DL-44 blaster, removable plastic vest, removable belt, Stormtrooper blaster, Stormtrooper belt.
The full loadout covers both Han Solo’s primary identity and his Death Star infiltration disguise, which is an unusually specific and useful accessory package for a single figure. The DL-44 blaster fits precisely into Han’s right hand with the index finger reaching the trigger — the holster on the standard belt is the right size for it. The vest comes off cleanly. The belt unplugs at the back and removes from the figure.
The Stormtrooper blaster and belt are the distinctive extras. The Stormtrooper blaster fits well into the right hand and also fits into the Stormtrooper belt’s holster, giving Han a fully functional disguise configuration that most versions of this character don’t provide. Displaying Han in Stormtrooper belt with Stormtrooper blaster is a specific Death Star setup that’s unavailable in most Black Series Han releases.
The clothing has a subtle wash applied throughout — enough to give the outfit depth and communicate that Han is wearing working clothes rather than display-fresh costume. Even the DL-44 has paint detail: brown wooden grip section, silver nozzle, scratches and weathering on the body. That level of care on the blaster specifically is above average.
What’s missing: the extra hands and gloves that came with the 2013 original. That was a meaningful accessory for those who wanted specific grip configurations. The 50th Anniversary release doesn’t include them.
The Photo-Real Face
The face update is the main engineering change from the 2013 original. Photo-real print can look slightly pixelated or grainy in close-up photography, and the Han Solo 50th Anniversary figure has this property — tight macro photographs will show the printing texture. In person, looking at the figure at normal viewing distance with the naked eye, it looks good. That’s the correct way to evaluate photo-real: how does it read on a shelf, not under a macro lens.
The update is a genuine improvement over the 2013 portrait, which was the Phase 1 Black Series Han Solo sculpt — decent for its era, but clearly showing its age compared to later releases.
The POTF2 Tribute
Power of the Force 2 launched in 1995 with Han Solo as one of its central figures — the franchise’s most popular character in the first modern-era premium Star Wars collector line. The POTF2 Han has become culturally notable for its over-muscled proportions, a specific product of 1990s toy aesthetics that prioritised physical bulk. Those proportions aren’t reproduced in the 50th Anniversary figure — the modern Black Series engineering uses accurate proportions — but the packaging tribute references the POTF2 card art and the era it represents.
For collectors who entered Star Wars collecting through POTF2, the 1995 Han Solo was likely among the first adult-targeted Star Wars figures they owned. The 50th Anniversary version is that same character at the quality level the Black Series has reached thirty years later.
The Stormtrooper Disguise Configuration
The Stormtrooper belt and blaster accessories are the purchase differentiator for collectors who already have a standard Black Series Han Solo. Most Han Solo releases give you the smuggler configuration. This one adds the Death Star infiltration option: Han in Stormtrooper belt with the E-11 blaster, the specific visual from the corridor scenes when he and Luke are moving through the Death Star dressed as troopers.
That’s a specific, displayable scene reference that justifies keeping this figure separate from a standard release on a display shelf.
Exclusive Distribution
Hasbro Pulse and ShopDisney exclusive at $26.49, September 2021. Dual-channel distribution gave this slightly better initial availability than pure Pulse exclusives. No variations recorded. No extra hands from the 2013 original were included.
Secondary Market
Hasbro Pulse / ShopDisney exclusive 2021. Secondary prices typically $28–45.
Verdict
Han Solo (POTF2) is the best-equipped figure in the 50th Anniversary POTF2 wave — five accessories including the Stormtrooper belt and blaster that enable the Death Star disguise display, a photo-real face update that works at normal viewing distance, and the subtle clothing wash that elevates the figure above a bare re-release. The missing extra hands are the one gap from the 2013 original. Hasbro Pulse / ShopDisney exclusive, $26.49.
