Phase I Clone Trooper — Star Wars The Black Series #AOTC 02

The Black Series Phase I Clone Trooper — Phase 4 AOTC Collection #02, 2020. Standard white AOTC clone armour with blaster rifle. 19 joints. The essential AOTC army builder. Collector guide.

Overview

Phase 4 AOTC Collection #02 is the Phase I Clone Trooper — the standard white-armoured Republic soldier of Attack of the Clones and the early Clone Wars era. This is the foundational army builder of the prequel era: the unmarked Phase 1 trooper who represents the base template from which all Clone Wars specialisations, commander colours, and unit markings derive. Every named clone commander — Rex, Cody, Bly — wears a personalised version of this armour. This figure is the blank canvas version.

The Phase 1 Template

Phase 1 clone armour — introduced in AOTC’s Geonosis battle and worn throughout the Clone Wars’ early period — is the specific design produced at Kamino from Jango Fett’s template. The smooth white plates, the T-visor helmet, the layered chest and back plates: this is the design that defined the Republic’s military visual identity before the Phase 2 update introduced during the Clone Wars series.

The unmarked standard trooper is the army builder’s most versatile configuration: no unit-specific markings mean multiple copies can represent any clone deployment without scene specificity. Unlike the Lieutenant (#AOTC 01) or the named commanders, the standard Phase 1 trooper belongs to any formation.

Army Building the AOTC Wave

The Phase 1 Clone Trooper at #AOTC 02 is the AOTC Collection’s primary army builder — the figure intended for multiple-copy purchase. Alongside the Lieutenant (#AOTC 01), it creates the rank-differentiated Phase 1 formation that the Geonosis and early Clone Wars displays require. Combined with Aayla Secura (#AOTC 03) and Ki-Adi Mundi (#AOTC 04), the clone troopers become the Jedi generals’ forces in a display that represents the Clone Wars’ command structure.

19 Joints at $19.99

The standard Phase 1 trooper at the base $19.99 price point — below the Lieutenant’s $24.99 — enables army-building cost efficiency. Multiple standard troopers at standard pricing, with a smaller number of Lieutenants at premium pricing, mirrors the rank ratio of an actual clone formation.

Verdict

The essential AOTC Phase 1 army builder. Buy multiples for any Geonosis or Clone Wars formation display.

Phase 1 vs Phase 2 Army Building

The Phase 1 clone at #AOTC 02 is specifically the AOTC-era configuration — before the Phase 2 armour update introduced in The Clone Wars animated series that streamlined the helmet design and modified the chest plate. For scene-accurate AOTC displays, Phase 1 is the only correct configuration; Phase 2 doesn’t appear until later in the war.

This means Phase 1 formation displays are specifically Geonosis and early Clone Wars — the opening chapter of the Republic’s military engagement. The specific historical window adds display precision value: these figures represent a specific moment in the franchise’s chronology rather than the generic Clone Wars era.

The Kamino Origin

The Phase 1 clone trooper’s design reflects its Kamino origin: the armour is directly derived from Jango Fett’s Mandalorian template, modified into mass-production standardisation. The T-visor helmet, the layered plate configuration, and the proportional scheme are all Fett-derived. Every Phase 1 clone trooper is, in a specific visual sense, a variation on the bounty hunter who unwillingly provided the template.

This origin creates the specific poignancy of the clone army fighting for the Republic they were never truly part of — and the specific horror of Order 66, when the inhibitor chips convert that service into assassination.

Secondary Market Army Building Strategy

For secondary market army building: Phase 1 Clone Troopers appear regularly at modest prices — standard army builders at standard production never become scarce. Buy in lots when available at reduced per-unit pricing. Three or four Phase 1 troopers flanking a named Jedi General creates the minimum viable Clone Wars field command display.

The Phase I Clone Trooper at #AOTC 02 is the AOTC Collection’s most essential purchase for formation building — more so than the Lieutenant, which is a single-copy command figure; more so than the 2024 update, which is a refinement. The 2020 version at secondary market pricing is the cost-efficient formation base. Buy multiples.

Multiple Phase 1 Clone Troopers flanking Aayla Secura (#AOTC 03) or Ki-Adi-Mundi (#AOTC 04) creates the Clone Wars field command display — the Jedi General with their clone escort — at consistent Phase 4 production quality. This is the display the AOTC Collection was built to enable.

Phase 1 Clone Troopers are one of the Black Series’ most reliably available secondary market figures — multiple releases, consistent production, steady supply. The army builder’s practical advantage: replacement figures are accessible when individual figures are lost, damaged, or acquired in incomplete condition.

The standard Phase 1 Clone Trooper at #AOTC 02 is also the best demonstration of the AOTC Collection’s army-building logic: the collection was structured around the clones from the beginning, with the first two numbered slots both being Phase 1 configurations before the first Jedi appears at #AOTC 03. Hasbro built the army first, then populated it with commanders. That sequence mirrors the actual production logic of the Clone Wars: the clones were manufactured, then the Jedi were assigned.

No production variants documented. The essential army builder. Buy multiples — the formation requires numbers.

The Phase 1 Clone Trooper’s position at #AOTC 02 — the second figure of the collection, one slot after the Lieutenant — establishes the collection’s army-building foundation before any named character appears. The collection’s designers chose to open with the formation rather than the hero. That choice is the AOTC Collection’s clearest statement of intent: this is an army-building collection that also happens to include Jedi, not a Jedi collection that also includes army builders.

Buy multiples — that is the only rule for army builders.
