Sandtrooper — Star Wars The Black Series #ANH 12
The Star Wars Black Series Sandtrooper — ANH Collection #12, 2025. $24.99. The weathered Tatooine Stormtrooper with orange squad leader pauldron, blaster rifle, and desert deployment pack. 18 points of articulation with butterfly shoulders. The ANH Collection's army builder.
Overview
The Sandtrooper closes the ANH Collection at #12 — the army builder that ends the twelve-figure run and fills out the Imperial presence on Tatooine. 18 points of articulation with butterfly shoulders. Four accessories including the orange squad leader pauldron, blaster rifle, and desert pack. $24.99. 2025.
It’s a structural decision that makes sense: the collection opens with heroes and aliens, closes with the Imperial formation they’re evading. The complete ANH world needs the soldiers searching for the droids, and here they are.
The Design
What separates a Sandtrooper from a standard Stormtrooper is immediately readable: the armour is weathered and sand-dirty rather than parade-ground white, the heavy backpack communicates a desert posting rather than a corridor patrol, and the pauldron on the right shoulder marks rank. The orange colour indicates squad leader — the specific configuration seen in ANH’s Tatooine sequence, riding dewbacks through the dunes.
The Phase 4 version brings this to current production standards with the full butterfly shoulder articulation that allows the wide two-handed blaster grip the figure’s weapon loadout calls for. The weathering in the sculpt and paint application is the figure’s best quality — it reads as a field soldier rather than a display piece.
Accessories
Four accessories is the most of any figure in the 2025 ANH Collection wave. The orange pauldron is removable, which gives you two display options — squad leader with pauldron on, or standard trooper configuration without it. The heavy blaster rifle is the primary weapon; additional desert gear completes the Tatooine deployment look.
The removable pauldron is the smart design choice here. If you’re buying multiples — and the Sandtrooper is the figure in this collection most worth buying in multiples — you can vary the pauldron across figures to suggest rank differentiation within your patrol formation.
The Sandtrooper in the Black Series
This isn’t the first Black Series Sandtrooper. The original Blue Wave release at P2-01 introduced the figure type at the very start of the line in 2013, and there have been subsequent releases including the Archive version. The ANH Collection #12 is the current production standard version — butterfly shoulders, Photo Real face printing on any visible surfaces, four accessories — and the right choice for any modern display.
Building the ANH Collection
The complete twelve-figure ANH Collection covers the film’s world comprehensively. Cantina creatures, the principal Rebel heroes, the Imperial command, and now the ground forces. The Sandtrooper is the final piece, and it’s the one that makes the Tatooine section of any display feel credible — a single Sandtrooper is a figure, but two or three of them start to read as the patrol that’s searching for the droids.
The collection as a whole: Leia (Ceremony), Ponda Baba, Dr. Evazan, Figrin D’an, Nalan Cheel, Darth Vader, Momaw Nadon, Leia (ANH), Luke, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and the Sandtrooper. A New Hope in twelve figures across four years of production. The Sandtrooper is the right way to close it.
Our Verdict
The Sandtrooper at #ANH 12 is exactly what it needs to be — a well-made, properly detailed army builder at a fair price with the accessories to make formation displays interesting. The removable pauldron and the four-accessory count make multiples genuinely worthwhile rather than just shelf padding. If you’re building the ANH Collection as a complete set, the Sandtrooper is also the figure to pick up more than one of. The Tatooine patrol needs numbers to look right.
