Supreme Leader Kylo Ren — Star Wars The Black Series #90
The Star Wars Black Series Supreme Leader Kylo Ren — Red Line #90, 2019. Kylo Ren in his Rise of Skywalker Supreme Leader configuration. 19 points of articulation, lightsaber hilt, two lightsaber options, removable cape with interchangeable hoods. $19.99 standard retail.
Overview
Supreme Leader Kylo Ren is Red Line #90, released on Triple Force Friday — October 4, 2019 — alongside the first wave of The Rise of Skywalker figures. $19.99 standard retail. 19 points of articulation. This is the Rise of Skywalker configuration of Kylo Ren as Supreme Leader of the First Order, in the black robes and repaired helmet that define his appearance in the third film.
Also available as a First Edition white packaging variant released simultaneously on Triple Force Friday. Both versions are identical figures — packaging only difference.
The Figure
19 points of articulation: ball-jointed top neck, swivel lower neck, ball-jointed shoulders, swivel above elbows, ball-jointed wrists, ball-jointed upper body, ball-jointed hips, swivel thighs, swivel above and below knees, ball-jointed ankles. The articulation count is solid for the robed silhouette — the upper body ball joint allows the forward-leaning aggressive posture Kylo Ren carries throughout the film.
The paint application is accurate to the Rise of Skywalker costume — the specific black robes Ren wears as Supreme Leader, distinct from the TFA and TLJ configurations. The face is pre-Photo Real by a few months — Triple Force Friday 2019 sits right at the transition point, and this figure reflects the earlier production pipeline.
Accessories
Five accessories total. The lightsaber hilt pegs into a hole on the back of the belt — a clean storage solution that works well in display. Both the lit and unlit lightsaber versions fit securely in Kylo Ren’s hands. The removable plastic cape sits over the shoulders and carries two hood options: one lying flat, one designed to go over the head. The flat hood attaches reliably via two pegs on the cape; the upright hood sits more loosely and doesn’t anchor as firmly — something GalacticFigures noted in their review. For static display the looser fit of the raised hood is less of an issue than for active posing.
Supreme Leader vs Earlier Kylo Ren Figures
Kylo Ren has multiple Black Series releases across the sequel trilogy. The Supreme Leader configuration is specific to The Rise of Skywalker — the restored cracked helmet, the black Supreme Leader robes. It’s distinct from the TFA Kylo Ren in his helmet, the unmasked TLJ Kylo Ren, and the TFA Galaxy Collection reissue. For collectors building a TROS display, this is the correct Kylo Ren — the character at his most powerful and most conflicted simultaneously.
The Galaxy Collection TFA Kylo Ren covers the Force Awakens configuration with updated Photo Real deco. The Supreme Leader release predates Photo Real, which is the main quality distinction between the two figures. For a TROS-specific shelf the Supreme Leader figure is the right choice regardless.
Triple Force Friday Context
Triple Force Friday — October 4, 2019 — was the retail launch event for The Rise of Skywalker merchandise ahead of the film’s December release. Eight figures were released simultaneously in First Edition white packaging, all from the basic assortment. The Supreme Leader Kylo Ren was among them. The First Edition packaging was the only distinction from the standard assortment releases — same number (#90), same figure, same accessories.
The Triple Force Friday wave was notable for leaning heavily into TROS characters before the film arrived, giving collectors and casual buyers a significant selection of new figures months before they could see the characters on screen. For some figures the pre-release nature meant designs were based on pre-final production; the Supreme Leader Kylo Ren appears to be accurate to the final film.
Secondary Market
The standard release and First Edition are both available on secondary market at or near retail. Neither commands a significant premium — the figure was widely available and the sequel trilogy tier of the Black Series has seen less secondary market pressure than Original Trilogy or Clone Wars figures. A straightforward acquisition.
Display
Supreme Leader Kylo Ren anchors a TROS display alongside Rey, the Sith Trooper, Jannah, Zorii Bliss, and the other TROS wave figures. He also reads naturally on a Kylo Ren character shelf spanning TFA through TROS — the progression from masked apprentice to unmasked Supreme Leader to, ultimately, Ben Solo. The black robes and restored helmet are the visual peak of the character’s dark side identity.
Our Verdict
Supreme Leader Kylo Ren at #90 is the correct TROS Kylo Ren for any Rise of Skywalker display. The pre-Photo Real face is the main limitation compared to more recent releases, but for a robed, helmeted figure it matters less than it would for an unmasked character. The accessory suite is well thought out — two hood options and a peg-stored lightsaber hilt cover the display options. Standard retail, easy to find, the definitive Supreme Leader configuration at 6-inch scale.
