Release Year: 2012 VC Number: #VC74 ID: gungan-warrior-star-wars-the-vintage-collection-vc74

Representing the brave defenders of the Naboo swamplands, the Gungan Warrior joined The Vintage Collection in 2012 as part of Wave 16. While earlier Gungan figures often leaned into the more whimsical elements of The Phantom Menace, this release focused on the martial strength and unique organic technology of the Grand Gungan Army. It was a high-demand "army builder" for collectors looking to recreate the massive Battle of Grassy Plains, providing a super-articulated soldier capable of standing against the Trade Federation's droid legions.

Technical Details & Sculpt

  • Design & Amphibian Anatomy: The sculpt masterfully captures the lean, powerful build of a Gungan soldier. It features the distinctive long haunches, three-fingered hands, and elongated "bills." The skin texture includes a subtle pebbled effect, reflecting the semi-aquatic nature of the species, while the light armor plates follow the organic, curved aesthetic of Gungan design.
  • Deco & Likeness: The 2012 release features a complex paint application, utilizing a palette of earthy ochres and oranges for the skin, contrasted by the metallic bronze of the headgear and breastplate. The "haidu" (ears) feature a translucent-like gradient at the tips, adding a layer of biological realism to the 3.75-inch frame.
  • Articulation: Featuring premium TVC articulation, including ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, and knees. The specialized "rocker" ankles and deep-cut hip joints are specifically engineered to allow the Warrior to take a wide, stable stance while throwing an atlatl or crouching behind a fambaa energy shield.
  • Display Utility: This is the essential "rank-and-file" unit for any Naboo Swamp or Great Grass Plains diorama. He is best displayed in multiples behind Jar Jar Binks (VC108) or Boss Nass.

Accessories & Equipment

The Gungan Warrior comes heavily armed with traditional Naboo weaponry. He includes a Cesta (staff) and an Atlatl (energy ball thrower), both featuring high-precision molding. A standout feature of the 2012 release is the inclusion of several "boomas" (electromagnetic plasma balls). The atlatl is designed to hold a booma, allowing collectors to pose the warrior mid-throw during the assault on the Separatist AATs.
