A cornerstone of any Echo Base diorama, the Hoth Rebel Soldier returned to the line in 2018 as part of Wave 17. While the character has seen many iterations since the 1980 Kenner original, this version was a welcome inclusion for the The Vintage Collection relaunch, specifically utilizing the highly regarded "Defense of Hoth" sculpt. It captures the rugged, functional cold-weather gear of the Rebel Alliance ground forces as they prepared for the Imperial assault on the icy plains of Hoth.

Technical Details & Sculpt

• Design & Sculpt: This figure is a repacked version of the excellent sculpt first seen in the 2010 Defense of Hoth multipack. It features a realistic, middle-aged human portrait with a mustache, capturing the "everyman" quality of the Rebel infantry. The layered quilted tunic and insulated trousers are sculpted with heavy fabric textures.
• Deco & Finish: The color palette consists of various shades of tan, grey, and off-white. The 2018 release features clean paint applications on the rank badge (located on the chest) and the metallic silver details of the life-support systems. The face is painted with traditional methods rather than the newer Photo-real tech, but remains one of the stronger portraits of the era.
• Articulation: Featuring premium TVC articulation, including ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, knees, and rocker ankles. The swivel waist and ball-jointed hips allow the soldier to adopt various prone or kneeling positions, essential for manning the anti-infantry laser cannons of Echo Base.
• Display Utility: As a "squad builder" figure, VC120 is designed to be displayed in multiples. He is the perfect companion for the Probot (Viper Probe Droid) or the Hoth Rebel Soldier (Echo Base Battle Gear) to recreate the defensive lines against the oncoming AT-AT walkers.

Accessories & Equipment

The Hoth Rebel Soldier is exceptionally well-equipped for the frozen environment. He includes a removable cold-weather cap with an attached scarf and goggles (which can be positioned on the forehead), a DH-17 blaster pistol, and a heavy A280 blaster rifle. The rifle includes a functional carry strap, allowing the figure to sling it over his shoulder while holding the pistol. Additionally, he comes with a survival backpack that plugs securely into his back.
