The surly Aqualish thug who made the mistake of picking a fight with Luke Skywalker crashed into The Vintage Collection in 2011 as part of Wave 9. Known colloquially by his Kenner-era moniker, "Walrus Man," this figure was a landmark release for Original Trilogy purists. It successfully bridged the gap between the nostalgic 1978 aesthetic and modern super-articulation, providing the definitive 3.75-inch representation of the Mos Eisley Cantina’s most aggressive patron as seen in A New Hope.

Technical Details & Sculpt

  • Design & Alien Physiology: The sculpt is a faithful recreation of the Aqualish species, specifically the Quara (fingered) subspecies seen in the film. It features his signature "butt-chin" muzzle, large dark eyes, and hairy, spider-like hands. The figure wears the iconic high-collared orange jacket and tan trousers that have defined the character for decades.
  • Deco & Finish: The 2011 release features a vibrant, matte-orange paint application on the jacket, contrasted by the rich browns of the leather-like vest and gloves. The eyes are finished with a high-gloss black to simulate the compound, insect-like gaze of the character seen in the dimly lit Cantina.
  • Articulation: Featuring premium TVC articulation, including ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, and knees. The specialized "swivel" wrists and ball-jointed hips are engineered to allow Ponda to lean heavily against a Cantina Bar or take a stumble after a run-in with a lightsaber.
  • Display Utility: This is the essential centerpiece for any Mos Eisley Cantina or Tatooine Underworld diorama. He is best displayed alongside his partner in crime, Dr. Evazan (VC57), or squaring off against Obi-Wan Kenobi (VC31).

Accessories & Equipment

Ponda Baba comes prepared for a barroom brawl. He includes his signature SE-14C blaster pistol, which fits securely into a functional holster on his belt. A standout feature of the 2011 release is the interchangeable hand and arm set. This allows collectors to swap his "fingered" hands for the flipper-like "hoof" hands seen in early production photos, or to display him with a severed arm to recreate the aftermath of the encounter with Ben Kenobi.
