The Anakin Skywalker & Captain Rex 2-pack is Clones of the Republic #4, 2025. $44.99. The most significant pairing in the series so far: Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex — the Jedi general and the clone commander who defined the 501st Legion’s identity across three seasons of the Clone Wars, and whose relationship became one of the most developed in the entire animated series.

This is the fourth Clones of the Republic release, following Mace Windu & 187th (#1), Yoda & Commander Gree (#2), and Obi-Wan Kenobi & 212th (#3).

Anakin Skywalker

Anakin Skywalker’s Clone Wars configuration is the version of the character who gets the most screen time across the animated series — the Jedi Knight who became a general before he was fully formed as a Jedi, whose tactical aggression and personal loyalty to his troops made the 501st one of the most effective units in the Republic army. He’s not the cautious, Council-approved Jedi of the prequel films here; he’s the commander who leads from the front and takes risks that other generals wouldn’t, because he trusts his instincts and his people.

The Clone Wars configuration is Anakin in armoured Jedi robes — the practical field variant of his prequel-era look, with the specific worn quality of someone who’s been deployed continuously. Anakin has multiple Black Series releases across different eras, but the Clone Wars general configuration — the one that dominates his animated appearances — is specifically covered here. Captain Rex

Captain Rex commands Torrent Company within the 501st Legion — Anakin’s unit, identified by the blue detailing on their Phase II armour. Rex is one of the most developed clone characters across the entire Clone Wars series: a leader who thinks independently, who questions orders when they conflict with his judgement, who builds genuine friendships with the Jedi he serves alongside. His relationship with Anakin is the closest thing the Clone Wars has to an equal partnership between Jedi and clone, and his relationship with Ahsoka becomes the emotional centre of the series’ final arc.

The figure carries Rex’s distinctive dual pistols — he’s one of the few clone commanders who fights primarily with blasters rather than a rifle, a personalisation that reflects his aggressive close-quarters style. His helmet has the specific blue and white markings of a Phase II ARC trooper configuration, well-worn from three years of continuous combat.

Rex has appeared in the Black Series before — the Clone Captain Rex (2018) mainline release covered him in his Rebels configuration with the older, modified armour. The Clones of the Republic version is Rex in his Clone Wars Phase II kit, at 2025 production standards, paired with his general.

The 501st Legion

The 501st Legion is the Republic’s most decorated unit by the end of the Clone Wars, and its reputation is inseparable from Anakin Skywalker’s command. The blue-accented armour became known across the galaxy for showing up wherever the Republic needed its best troops. The irony that the 501st became Vader’s Fist after Order 66 — the unit that stormed the Jedi Temple — is one of the Clone Wars’ most painful threads, and Rex carries it by removing his inhibitor chip before the order comes.

The Most Important Clones of the Republic Pairing

Four packs into the series, the Anakin/Rex combination is the most narratively significant pairing produced. Mace Windu and the 187th, Yoda and Gree, Obi-Wan and the 212th — all important.
