Star Wars Black Series Galaxy Collection
The complete guide to the Star Wars Black Series Galaxy Collection — every series from The Mandalorian and Ahsoka to Gaming Greats, 40th Anniversary, and the full film and TV lineup. 450+ figures covering the entire Star Wars saga.
The Star Wars Black Series Galaxy Collection is the current era of the 6-inch line — launched in 2020 and still in active production, covering every corner of the Star Wars saga across more than 450 figures and growing. It replaced the numbered Red Line format entirely, dropping sequential numbering in favour of grouping figures by the film or series they come from. A Mandalorian figure ships under The Mandalorian sub-line. A Clone Wars figure ships under The Clone Wars sub-line. Every release has a clear home.
The Galaxy Collection is also where Hasbro made Photo Real face printing the standard across the entire Star Wars Black Series line — every human character produced in this era uses photography-based face printing rather than hand-applied paint, and the portrait accuracy improvement over the Red Line and Blue Wave eras is significant. If you are building a display in 2025 and want the best-looking versions of characters like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Rey, or Kylo Ren, the Galaxy Collection releases are where to start.
What Is the Black Series Galaxy Collection?
The Black Series Galaxy Collection is the Phase 4 packaging era of the Star Wars Black Series 6-inch line. It uses the “mural” packaging design — a full-illustration box featuring the character against a scene from their source material — and organises figures into labelled sub-lines rather than a single numbered sequence. A figure’s sub-line is printed on the packaging alongside a number within that sub-line, so The Mandalorian #MAN 01 and The Clone Wars #CW 01 can coexist without confusion.
The Galaxy Collection launched in 2020 alongside the tail end of Phase 3 production, initially running parallel to the last Red Line waves before fully replacing them. It is the longest-running single packaging era in the line’s history and shows no sign of ending — Hasbro has expanded the sub-line structure to cover essentially every major Star Wars property released on Disney+.
Galaxy Collection Sub-Lines — Film Series
The Galaxy Collection covers every numbered Star Wars film with dedicated sub-lines. The Original Trilogy has three separate lines — A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi — each building out the cast of their respective film with Photo Real face printing as standard. The 40th Anniversary sub-line runs alongside these with Kenner-style cardback packaging covering the same films.
The Prequel Trilogy follows the same structure — The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith each have their own sub-lines, with the Clone Wars animated series bridging the prequel era through The Clone Wars sub-line.
The Anthology Films have dedicated sub-lines in Rogue One and Andor, the latter extending into a surprisingly deep collection driven by the series’ strong visual design.
The Sequel Trilogy — The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker — received Galaxy Collection updates that addressed the portrait quality limitations of the original Red Line releases.
Galaxy Collection Sub-Lines — Disney+ Series
The Disney+ era is where the Galaxy Collection has its deepest investment. The Mandalorian is the largest single sub-line in the Galaxy Collection with more than 45 figures covering Din Djarin, Grogu, the full supporting cast, Imperial remnant troops, and Mandalorian warriors across all three seasons. It is the essential Galaxy Collection sub-line for any collector.
The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, Ahsoka, The Bad Batch, Star Wars Rebels, The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew, and The Mandalorian and Grogu film tie-in each have their own sub-lines, making the Galaxy Collection the most comprehensive Disney-era Star Wars figure programme ever produced.
Specialist and Collector Sub-Lines
Beyond the film and TV lines, the Galaxy Collection includes sub-lines aimed at specific collector interests.
Gaming Greats is a GameStop-exclusive sub-line covering characters from Jedi: Fallen Order, Jedi: Survivor, Republic Commando, Knights of the Old Republic, The Force Unleashed, Battlefront II, and Galaxy of Heroes. With more than 37 figures it is one of the deepest gaming figure lines Hasbro has produced and the only place to find Black Series versions of characters like Cal Kestis, Darth Malak, Bastila Shan, and the full Republic Commando Delta Squad.
40th Anniversary covers the Original Trilogy with Kenner-style cardback packaging, celebrating the 40th, 45th, and 50th milestones of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. These are the premium collector releases within the Galaxy Collection era.
50th Anniversary is a separate comics and Legends sub-line covering expanded universe characters, Kenner callback figures, and Clone Wars Tartakovsky-style figures — the most varied single sub-line in the Galaxy Collection.
Archive Collection reprints popular figures from across the line’s history with Photo Real updates where applicable, making previously hard-to-find figures available at standard retail pricing.
Credit Collection, Carbonized, Galaxy’s Edge, and Holiday Edition round out the specialist sub-lines — each targeting a specific collector interest or retail channel.

Galaxy Collection vs Red Line — Which to Buy?
For most characters the answer is the Galaxy Collection — Photo Real face printing, improved articulation standards, and active production mean these are the best Black Series figures ever made. The exceptions are characters the Galaxy Collection hasn’t revisited yet — figures like 4-LOM, Bossk, and Clone Commander Cody still exist only in their Red Line or Blue Wave versions. For those characters the older release is the only option. See Phases Explained for a full breakdown of how the eras compare.
