Overview
The Han Solo and Princess Leia (Hoth) 2-Pack is a Fan Channel exclusive with one of the most complicated release histories in Phase 3 Black Series. Originally an European convention exclusive launched in Fall 2018, it toured multiple conventions across Europe before a limited US allocation through Entertainment Earth in November 2018. Then, two years later, it unexpectedly appeared at Target stores across the United States in late 2020 and early 2021, giving a new wave of collectors access to a set they’d largely written off as inaccessible. The MSRP is $49.99, though the opening convention appearance charged 80 EUR — nearly double what later events charged, and the source documentation does not mince words about this, calling it an “excruciating” price.
Both figures depict the Echo Base configuration from The Empire Strikes Back — Han and Leia in their Hoth cold-weather gear during the Rebel Alliance’s time on the ice planet.
Release History
Noris Force Con (Nuremberg, Germany) — September 21-23, 2018. First appearance anywhere, at 80 EUR.
Paris Comic Con 2018 — subsequent convention stop at more reasonable pricing.
MCM London Comic Con 2018 — UK convention availability.
Lucca Comics & Games (Italy, 2018) — Italian festival appearance.
Entertainment Earth (US online) — November 6th, 2018, limited quantity available to US collectors who had been watching.
Target stores (US) — late 2020 and early 2021, an unexpected re-release that broadened access significantly.
Princess Leia Organa (Hoth Outfit)
Leia in the white insulated jacket and pants she wears throughout the Hoth sequence of The Empire Strikes Back — the outfit she’s wearing during the evacuation of Echo Base and during the south passage scene the set’s packaging explicitly references. 18 joints — ball-jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, swivel thighs, swivel joints above and below knees, ball-jointed ankles.
Two Accessories
Blaster rifle — fits well in both hands.
Removable plastic vest — the outer layer of the Hoth outfit, removable as a separate piece.
The Face
Hasbro applied their photo-real face printing technology to Leia, and the result is described as outstandingly good — a meaningful step up from previous Leia head sculpts in the programme. No balance issues.
Han Solo (Hoth Outfit)
Han in his brown Hoth jacket — the one he wears during the south passage moment and throughout the Hoth battle. 18 joints — ball-jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, swivel forearms (note: forearms rather than ball-jointed wrists), ball-jointed waist, hips, swivel thighs, swivel joints above and below knees, ball-jointed ankles.
New Head on Existing Body
Hasbro reused the body from the 2015 Tauntaun Han Solo (id=2399) for this figure — same articulation scheme, same basic build. Two specific inherited details to be aware of: the coat colour is brown here rather than the blue of the Tauntaun version, which is the screen-accurate Hoth colour; and the bottom of each foot has two holes from the original Tauntaun figure’s mounting peg design. The holes serve no purpose on this release.
What’s entirely new is the head — a purpose-built Harrison Ford likeness using photo-real face printing technology. The result is described as incredibly good, making this among the better Harrison Ford likenesses in the Phase 3 line.
Four Accessories
Blaster — fits perfectly in the holster. The holster is the right size for this blaster, which is a detail worth noting since poorly-fitting holsters are common enough to mention when they work correctly.
Welding tool — the repair tool Han is carrying during the Echo Base scenes. Fits well in the hands.
Welding goggles — fit tightly over the head with the lenses sitting correctly over the eyes. A specific accessory that ties this figure to the hangar bay/maintenance context of his Hoth scenes.
Removable fur neck piece — the fur collar around the jacket neck. Comes off easily. The source documentation is direct: if the fur isn’t your thing, just take it off. The figure works without it and it’s a clean removal.
The Set Together
Han and Leia (Hoth) is the complete south passage pairing for an ESB Echo Base display. Both figures have outstanding photo-real faces — described as outstanding for Leia and incredibly good for Han — which puts this among the best-face-printed sets in Phase 3. The combination of Han’s welding tool and goggles with Leia’s clean Hoth jacket creates a nice contrast between the two characters’ roles at Echo Base: the general overseeing evacuation, and the smuggler getting his hands dirty keeping the Falcon running.
The source documentation notes that the entire set — packaging included — makes a great display piece either boxed or loose.
Secondary Market
Multiple release windows create a complex secondary market picture. Original European convention sets command a premium over the Target re-release, with packaging differences being the primary distinguishing factor for completionists. The figures themselves are identical across all runs. Verify Leia’s vest and blaster rifle, and Han’s full four accessories — the welding goggles are the most likely to be separated from a loose set.
Verdict
Han Solo and Princess Leia (Hoth) is one of the stronger ESB releases in Phase 3 — two outstandingly face-printed figures in accurate Hoth configurations, Han with a genuinely clever accessory spread including the welding goggles and removable fur. The Noris Force Con price was rough, but the Target re-release made this set accessible at a fair price. Either way, it’s a must for Empire Strikes Back Hoth collectors.
