IG-11 — Star Wars The Black Series
The Black Series IG-11 — Best Buy exclusive, November 2019. $19.99. IG-88 Archive repaint with new bandolier. 19 joints. Almost 7 inches tall — still slightly short of on-screen scale. Peg-hole hands lock blasters securely. Extremely well-hidden joints. Wires and detail front and back. Bandolier tight — not easily removable. Stiff joints, stands well.
Overview
IG-11 is a Best Buy exclusive released on November 1st 2019 — the same day The Mandalorian launched on Disney+, making it one of the most timely character releases in the Black Series programme. $19.99 at standard single-card pricing. Built on the Archive IG-88 tooling (id=18319) with a repaint specific to the Mandalorian series and a different bandolier across the chest. The sculpt is beautifully detailed with wires and mechanical detail covering both front and back, and the joints are extremely well hidden — they don’t distract from the figure’s appearance at all.
Articulation and Scale
19 joints — swivel neck, dual-axis shoulders (swivel plus ball-jointed), ball-jointed elbows, dual upper-body swivels (forward/back and sideways independently), swivel hips, swivel thighs, swivel knees, and dual-axis ankles (sideways swivel plus up/down swivel). The dual upper-body joints and dual-axis ankles give IG-11 a wider range of dynamic pose options than a single waist joint would provide.
Scale note: IG-11 stands almost 7 inches tall — taller than a standard Black Series 6” figure — but still not tall enough compared to the on-screen counterpart, where the character is considerably more imposing in scale. The figure represents an improvement in relative scale over the IG-88 releases that used the same tooling without the Mandalorian-specific detailing, but collectors who are strict about scale accuracy will note the gap. The stiff joints help the figure stand well on display despite the above-standard height.
The Peg-Hand Blaster System
Both blasters have small holes in them that plug onto pegs located on each of the droid’s hands. This means IG-11 can hold both weapons securely without them falling out — a specific engineering positive that addresses one of the most common display problems with large droid figures holding weapons. Trigger-finger grips and loose-hand display are replaced by a locked peg connection on both sides simultaneously.
The Bandolier
The bandolier is its own separate piece — not part of the base sculpt — but is extremely tight and difficult to remove. It’s probably possible to take off with patience, but not easily. For most collectors the bandolier is effectively a permanent display element. This distinguishes the IG-11 from the IG-88 Archive source figure and gives it the Mandalorian-specific visual identity.
The Paint
The paint application looks cool and is quite different from previous IG Black Series figure releases — the specific Mandalorian series-appropriate weathering and colour application separates this clearly from the IG-88 releases. Beautifully sculpted with lots of wires and details on both front and back.
Launch Day Context
Being released on the exact premiere date of The Mandalorian made this one of the more well-timed exclusive releases in the Black Series programme. IG-11’s prominent role in the first episodes meant the figure was immediately relevant to viewers of the show, and Best Buy’s exclusive distribution made it accessible through a major national retailer rather than a specialty channel.
Secondary Market
Best Buy exclusive, November 2019, Phase 3 Red Line. Single-card standard release. Verify both blasters — the peg-fit design means they’re less likely to be lost than loose-grip accessories, but confirm both are present and that the pegs are undamaged.
Verdict
IG-11 is a well-timed, well-executed Best Buy exclusive — the peg-hand blaster system is a practical engineering improvement, the joints are genuinely well hidden for a complex droid sculpt, and the Mandalorian-specific paint and bandolier differentiate it clearly from the IG-88 archive releases. The scale shortfall vs the on-screen version is noted but the figure at nearly 7 inches still reads as appropriately imposing on display.
