Overview

The Imperial Shadow Squadron 2-Pack is a 2014 Target exclusive in the Phase 2 Blue Line at $49.99 — the most expensive Phase 2 Blue Line set, reflecting the inclusion of a vehicle alongside two figures. The set contains a Shadow Scout with a black Speeder Bike, and a Shadow Stormtrooper Commander. Both figures are all-black repaints of existing Phase 2 source bodies. Neither figure appeared in any of the films. The Imperial Shadow Squadron is an expanded universe concept — an elite covert operations unit whose armour and vehicles feature cloaking technology. They look very nice on display despite the non-canon status, and the black Speeder Bike specifically is a striking variant on the standard Biker Scout with Speeder Bike (2014) set.

Shadow Scout

The Shadow Scout is a repaint of the Biker Scout with Speeder Bike (2014) — same source body, same Speeder Bike tooling, entirely in black.

25 joints — the exceptional Biker Scout articulation including dual-axis neck, swivel biceps, dual-axis elbows, swivel boots, and ball-jointed ankles.

One specific QC note: when the figure was taken out of its packaging, the helmet was incredibly deformed. The expectation was that the plastic would bend itself back into its original shape once released from the packaging pressure — check the helmet condition carefully when acquiring on the secondary market.

The blaster can be stowed in the right boot holster. Each foot has two peg holes — one for the Speeder Bike pedal pegs and one for a stand — identical engineering to the standard release. The figure fits well onto the Speeder Bike and can hold both handlebars with feet on the pedals. As with the standard release, fully sitting down on the bike is never quite achieved — but it looks cool regardless.

Shadow Stormtrooper Commander

The Shadow Stormtrooper Commander is an all-black repaint of the 2014 Sandtrooper (source id=2069) with silver and grey highlights on the helmet. The black paint is well applied.

23 joints — the Sandtrooper source body with swivel biceps and dual-axis elbows.

Four accessories: a dark grey shoulder pauldron, two blaster rifles, and a blaster. All weapons are simply grey plastic with no paint on them — an accessory-quality note worth flagging. Three weapons with zero paint detail is a cost-cut that stands out on a $49.99 set. The figure can hold all three blasters well in the hands. No backpack and no ammo pouch are included despite the Sandtrooper source body having mounting points for both. The belt is not removable.

The Shadow Speeder Bike

The black Speeder Bike carries over all the engineering from the standard release — unpluggable foot rests, two movable rear flaps, rotating bottom gun, display stand. The black finish transforms the look entirely from the standard version. No exploding feature. The display stand works very well for dynamic poses.

Non-Canon Context

The Imperial Shadow Squadron concept originated in Expanded Universe material and never appeared in the theatrical films as of this set’s 2014 release. For collectors who engage with EU/Legends content alongside the canonical film line, this is a clean interpretation of the concept in 6” scale. For strict film-canon collectors, it’s an explicit step outside the screen-accurate programme. The all-black colour scheme gives both figures and the vehicle a distinctive display presence that works well in Imperial-themed shelves even without the EU context.

Secondary Market

Target exclusive, 2014, Phase 2 Blue Line. Verify the Shadow Scout’s helmet for deformation damage — it was notably warped in the review example out of packaging. Check all seven accessories: Scout’s blaster + display stand; Commander’s pauldron + 2 blaster rifles + blaster.

Verdict

Imperial Shadow Squadron 2-Pack is the most ambitious Phase 2 Blue Line exclusive — two figures plus a vehicle at $49.99 with the all-black Shadow aesthetic that works as a strong visual counterpoint to standard Imperial trooper displays. The Shadow Scout’s 25-joint articulation and black Speeder Bike are the set’s highlights. The Commander’s three unpainted grey blasters are the accessory quality lowlight. Neither figure is canon — a feature or a bug depending entirely on your collecting approach.
