Overview
The KX Security Droid & BD-1 Holiday Edition 2-Pack is the fourth of six Holiday Edition 2-packs in the 2023 series, released in November 2023 exclusively through Walmart. Walmart exclusive at $27.99. The KX Security Droid is a repaint of the Jedi: Survivor KX Security Droid source body in a festive seasonal paint scheme. BD-1 accompanies in holiday styling. Pack #4 of 6 in the 2023 Holiday Edition series.
The 27-Joint Articulation with Clear Plastic Joints
27 joints — ball-jointed upper and lower neck, ball-jointed shoulders, triple-axis elbow configuration (360° swivel above, hinge up/down, 360° swivel below), swivel wrists plus hand hinges, ball-jointed upper body, ball-jointed hips, triple-axis knee configuration (360° swivel above, hinge up/down, 360° swivel below), plus dual-axis ankles (up/down swivel + left/right foot hinge). The KX Security Droid’s elbows, knees, and ankle joints were given clear plastic pieces so that you can see through them — a specific engineering aesthetic decision that gives the Holiday Edition release a visually distinctive joint treatment distinct from both the standard release and other Holiday Edition figures.
Hasbro managed to capture the likeness of the droid perfectly while at the same time ultra-articulating it with extremely well hidden joints. The standard KX Security Droid character class has historically suffered from loose ankle joints making tall figures difficult to display stably — one thing Hasbro did better on this release than on previous K-2SO or KX Security Droids is that they tightened the joints, and the rather tall figure stands surprisingly well on display.
The Blaster
The droid came with a blaster which fits well into the hands. The blaster is cute — it has an orange safety plug painted on the front. The orange safety-tip blaster continues the 2023 Holiday Edition programme’s use of orange-tipped or novelty-coloured toy weapons (also seen on the Mandalorian Scout’s orange-tip blaster in Pack #1).
The Seasonal Theme Question
We’ve seen Purge Troopers painted to look like Nutcrackers and a Snowtrooper which looked like a Snowman, but it’s unclear what this KX Security Droid is supposed to look like. This is a genuine and honest note from the source documentation — unlike the Purge Trooper Nutcracker (Pack #5) or Snowtrooper Snowman (Pack #6) in the same 2023 wave which have clear seasonal analogues, the KX Security Droid’s festive paint doesn’t map to a recognisable holiday concept. The paint looks festive but the thematic identity is ambiguous. For collectors who engage with the Holiday Edition programme primarily for the seasonal character-concept fits (Santa Jawa, Nutcracker Purge Trooper, Snowman Snowtrooper), this is the 2023 wave entry where that fit is least defined.

KX Security Droid & BD-1 Holiday Edition 2-Pack is the articulation and joint-engineering highlight of the 2023 Holiday Edition series — 27 joints with clear plastic see-through elbow/knee/ankle pieces is visually distinctive, the tighter-than-prior-K-2SO-releases joints deliver display stability on a tall figure that historically struggled with this, and the orange safety-plug blaster fits the hands cleanly. The seasonal theme ambiguity is the honest note — if you like the Holiday Edition series generally and want the KX Security Droid’s joint engineering in a festive format, this delivers.
