Overview

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Duel of the Fates) was released on April 11th 2019 as a Star Wars Celebration Chicago exclusive at $28, alongside the companion Darth Maul — together representing the opponents from the Duel of the Fates. This is the first Episode I young Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Black Series 6” line — young Padawan Obi-Wan as he appears in The Phantom Menace, before the Clone Wars, before the beard, with Qui-Gon’s Padawan braid. The figure uses more advanced joint engineering than the older toolings it stands alongside: 20 joints including barbell neck joints, butterfly-jointed shoulders, swivel-hinge shoulders and elbows, double swivel-hinge knees, and rocker ankles.

The Head Sculpt

Outstanding. The photo-real face printing technology applied to a specifically young Ewan McGregor likeness — not the older prequel Obi-Wan from Revenge of the Sith, but the 1999 Phantom Menace version. In person, the source documentation describes it as truly amazing. The food capsules on the belt and belt buckle were painted cleanly. No Jedi robe is included — which is noted as a shame, but understandable given the soft-goods cost.

The Extra Hands

This is the Celebration exclusive feature that distinguishes it from the standard re-release: two extra hands. One is in a pointing/two-finger position — the Force point gesture. Swapping hands is straightforward. The standard Black Series re-release (id=20472) ships with the same figure but no extra hands — that’s the only difference between the two releases.

Accessories

Blue lightsaber with removable blade — fits well in both hands. A peg on the hilt allows it to be plugged into a clip on the belt for carried-weapon display.

Two pointing-finger hand — Force point gesture, right hand configuration.

Standard hand — the neutral display alternative.

Articulation Notes

Butterfly shoulders give Obi-Wan cross-body arm movement that standard ball-joint shoulders can’t replicate. The double swivel-hinge knees allow deep bending poses beyond what single-joint knees permit. Rocker ankles for foot-flat balance in dynamic stances. This joint spec was newer to the programme at the time and gives the figure noticeably better duel pose capability than older toolings.

Secondary Market

Star Wars Celebration Chicago, April 2019. Three accessories: lightsaber hilt, blade, and both extra hands. The extra pointing hand is the key exclusive differentiator from the standard re-release — confirm it’s present.

Verdict

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Duel of the Fates) is the definitive Phantom Menace Obi-Wan — outstanding young McGregor face print, advanced joint engineering for combat poses, extra Force-point hand, and belt-clip lightsaber. The missing robe is noted. For collectors building the Naboo duel display with the companion Maul, this is exactly the figure the scene needed.
