Overview

Princess Leia Organa (Star Wars: Princess Leia Comic) is a Fan Channel exclusive in the Black Series 50th Anniversary sub-line, released in September 2022 at $27.99. The figure is based on Leia’s appearance in the Star Wars: Princess Leia comic book miniseries — the 2015 Marvel series by Mark Waid and Terry Dodson set immediately after the Battle of Yavin, following Leia as she races to save surviving Alderaanians scattered across the galaxy before the Empire hunts them down.

This is primarily a kit-bashed figure: the plastic cape comes from a Black Series Padmé Amidala, the body from a Black Series Princess Leia Hoth, and the belt from a Black Series Jaina Solo with the lightsaber hook removed. Hasbro added a newly sculpted head. Despite the parts-bin construction, the figure turned out very nicely — the combination works, and the head sculpt is the quality element that ties it together.

Articulation

20 joints. Ball-jointed neck, ball-jointed shoulders, ball-jointed elbows, ball-jointed wrists, swivel waist, ball-jointed hips, swivel thighs, swivel joints above the knees, swivel joints below the knees, swivel boots, ball-jointed ankles.

The swivel boots are a specific joint type that appears on fewer Black Series figures — they allow the foot to rotate independently of the ankle, giving more natural-looking standing poses and combat stances without affecting balance. The figure stands well on display without falling over.

Accessories

4 accessories. Plastic cape, blaster, blaster rifle, removable belt.

Leia holds both the blaster and the blaster rifle tightly in her hands — a good grip on both rather than the loose hold that plagues some figures. The ANH-style blaster fits well into the holster on the belt. To remove the plastic cape, pop the head off first and lift it free — straightforward once you know the process. The belt pulls down over the legs to remove, which works but requires a bit of effort.

The figure has no weathering or dirt — a clean presentation consistent with Leia’s depiction in the comic series.

The Head Sculpt

The head sculpt and the photo-real print on the face look great. This is the single new tooling investment on an otherwise kit-bashed figure, and it carries the weight of the release. The Princess Leia comic series’ specific look — the ponytail hair rather than the ANH buns — is captured in the sculpt, giving this a clearly distinct visual identity from other Black Series Leia releases.

The Kit-Bash and Why It Works

Kit-bashing is a legitimate approach in the collector figure world when the parts are well-matched. The Hoth Leia body provides the right height and proportions. The Padmé cape is a reasonable fit for the Princess Leia comic’s distinctive white outfit with its flowing elements. The Jaina Solo belt, minus the saber hook that would be out of place on Leia, gives the figure the utility equipment a Rebel operative would carry.

The parts were selected with care rather than thrown together. The result is a figure that looks designed for this character rather than assembled from leftovers — which is the outcome you want from a kit-bash, and not every kit-bash achieves it.

The Princess Leia Miniseries

The 2015 Star Wars: Princess Leia comic is set in the immediate aftermath of Yavin — the hours and days after the Death Star’s destruction, when Leia has no time to grieve Alderaan because there are surviving Alderaanians in danger. The series focuses on a Leia who is actively working rather than reacting, leading a covert mission to extract her people before the Empire’s reprisals reach them.

It’s a version of Leia that the films never had space to show: the commander operating independently, making hard calls, defining what Alderaan will mean going forward rather than letting the Empire define it by its destruction. The white combat outfit with the cape is the series’ distinctive visual, a deliberate departure from both the ceremonial ANH look and the Hoth military uniform that bookend her film appearances in this period.

The 50th Anniversary release is the only Black Series figure from this specific comic series, and the only Black Series Leia in this combat-operative white outfit configuration.

Verdict

Princess Leia Organa (Star Wars: Princess Leia Comic) is a well-executed kit-bash with a strong head sculpt, a four-accessory loadout that includes two weapons both held tightly, and a clear visual identity from the 2015 comic series. The cape and belt removal processes work cleanly once you know the method. Clean presentation, no weathering. Fan Channel exclusive, $27.99.
