R5-P8 (Galaxy's Edge) — Star Wars The Black Series

The Black Series R5-P8 (Galaxy's Edge) — Target exclusive, October 2020. $24.99. Repaint of R5-K6. Hondo Ohnaka's repair mechanic astromech. 10 joints: 360° rotating dome (activates middle leg), swivel hips/ankles, 2 openable front panels with extendable tools, movable tools, 2 removable outer leg panels. No dome panels, no electronics. Slight weathering. Undersized vs other 6-inch figures and feels over-priced at $24.99.

Overview

R5-P8 (Galaxy’s Edge) is a Target October 2020 exclusive at $24.99 — a repaint of the astromech R5-K6 (id=4895), reimagined as Hondo Ohnaka’s personal repair mechanic droid from the Galaxy’s Edge backstory. R5-P8 maintains Hondo’s ships and has a notably sassy personality. 10 joints — all specific to an astromech droid’s body type rather than humanoid articulation. Also found at various Disney property stores in Orlando.

The Articulation

Dome rotation — the dome rotates a full 360°. When turned, this rotation physically moves the middle leg in and out of the body via a mechanical linkage.

Two openable front panels — the panels on the front of the body open, and the arms/tools inside can be pulled out for deployed display.

Movable tools — the tools themselves have additional joint points.

Removable outer leg panels — two panels on the outside of each leg can be detached. These are the included “accessories.”

Each foot has two wheels in the bottom. No electronics, no light or sound features. No removable panels on the dome. The antenna is permanently attached.

The Weathering

Both the dome and body have slight weathering applied — subtle dirt suggesting use and age. The dirty look suits an astromech working on pirate ships.

The Value Note

The source documentation is direct: at $24.99, this figure feels over-priced because it is undersized relative to other 6” Black Series figures. The astromech body format naturally produces a small figure, and at the same price point as full-height humanoid figures, the size disparity is noticeable. Worth acknowledging when making a purchase decision.

Secondary Market

Target, October 2020 / Disney property Orlando. Two removable outer leg panels as the listed accessories.

Verdict

R5-P8 is a charming, well-characterised Galaxy’s Edge astromech with a useful dome-rotation middle-leg mechanic and openable chest panels. The undersized-for-the-price note is genuine and should factor into any purchase decision — this is a niche buy for Hondo Ohnaka display completionists or Galaxy’s Edge droid collectors.
