Overview
Admiral Ackbar is one half of a Toys’R’Us exclusive 2-pack released September 2017 at $39.99 for both figures, paired with the First Order Officer. This is the TLJ appearance — Ackbar in his role as Resistance commander in The Last Jedi, not The Force Awakens. 19 joints — but notably different from standard humanoid articulation due to the Mon Calamari body type: swivel neck (up/down only), movable mouth, ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, swivel thighs, and swivel joints at the knees and ankles.
The Movable Mouth
Ackbar’s jaw can be opened — when you tilt the head backward, the mouth opens. The mechanism is physically linked to the neck movement. For display, this means you can pose Ackbar mid-command, mouth open, which is exactly what you want from this character.
The Hands
One practical note for anyone building a display: Ackbar can only hold the blaster in his right hand. The left hand’s alien anatomy doesn’t permit gripping a weapon. This isn’t a complaint — it’s accurate to a Mon Calamari’s physique — but it’s worth knowing for pose planning.
Sculpt and Head Detail
The sculpted details on the head are impressive — the texture and anatomy of the Mon Calamari face are rendered well. Paint and sculpt are both described as well-applied, no balance issues.
Secondary Market
Toys’R’Us, September 2017. Often sold as a loose pair with the First Order Officer. The 2-pack packaging is distinctive — confirm the correct version (TLJ Ackbar, not the earlier TFA release id=4830).
Verdict
Admiral Ackbar delivers on the character’s visual complexity — an impressive head sculpt, a working jaw mechanism, and correct TLJ configuration. The right-hand-only weapon grip is anatomy-accurate. An essential Resistance command display piece.
