Overview

The First Order Stormtrooper with Extra Gear is a November 2017 Amazon exclusive at $34.99 — a re-release of the standard 2015 First Order Stormtrooper (id=3462) that makes the figure almost incidental to its own set. The accessories are the entire point. Eleven of them. The Black Series 6” line had been notably sparse on accessory variety compared to the 3¾-inch programme, and this set was a deliberate response — giving collectors the opportunity to kit out their troopers with a full combat loadout. The source documentation calls it one of the coolest sets of 2017, and the packaging alone earns a mention: the Starkiller Base/Death Star panel presentation with front and back artwork is described as fantastic.

The Figure

19 joints — standard First Order Stormtrooper source body. Ball-jointed neck, ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, and wrists, ball-jointed upper body, ball-jointed hips, swivel thighs, swivel joints above and below both knees, ball-jointed ankles. Same engineering as the 2015 and 2016 releases of this tooling. Trigger-finger grip on both standard weapons. Both blasters plug into the right thigh peg hole. Keeps balance well in dynamic poses. No head under the helmet.

The 11 Accessories

Blaster — standard FO Stormtrooper blaster. Trigger-finger grip, plugs into right thigh.

Blaster rifle — trigger-finger grip, also plugs into right thigh peg.

Harness with ammunition packs attached — fits well around the figure’s waist. Has a back peg for the backpack.

Backpack — attaches to the back peg of the harness.

Separate ammunition pack — can be clipped onto one of the harness straps, which looks cool.

2-piece binoculars — splits into two separate pieces.

Baton — has two sections that can be swivelled 360 degrees, allowing open or closed display configurations. Fits well in the hands.

Shield — fits well in the hands.

Heavy Repeater Cannon — the set’s showpiece accessory, consisting of three components: the main cannon body, a stand, and a support pole that helps balance it. The cannon can be detached from the stand and the trooper can hold it up, but it doesn’t fit all that well into either hand. The three-part assembled configuration displayed on the stand is the practical display option.

The Accessory Pack Concept

Accessory packs had been a feature of the 3¾-inch Star Wars line for years before the Black Series launched — kits that allowed collectors to equip existing figures with additional weapons and gear without buying a new figure. The Black Series 6” programme had largely not done this, making this 2017 Amazon release a notable programme first in the 6” scale. The source documentation makes this comparison explicitly: the 3¾-inch line had been doing this, and it’s good to see Hasbro give 6” collectors the same option.

The Packaging

The Heavy Repeater Cannon’s three parts (cannon + stand + support pole) are the most complex assembly to keep complete.

Verdict

First Order Stormtrooper with Extra Gear delivers exactly what it promises — a fully kitted combat loadout for a First Order Stormtrooper in 6” scale, with the harness/backpack system, baton with open/close configuration, shield, and the three-part Heavy Repeater Cannon assembly covering every display configuration from standard patrol to heavy weapons emplacement. The Heavy Repeater Cannon doesn’t fit cleanly in hand but works excellently on its stand. For collectors who like their troopers equipped rather than parade-standing, this is the most well-stocked First Order Stormtrooper in the programme.
