Overview

Han Solo (Exogorth Escape) is the SDCC July 19 2018 exclusive at $34.99 — Han in his Empire Strikes Back Bespin jacket configuration during the asteroid field sequence, packaged in a beautiful box with a Mynock. This release marked the first use of Hasbro’s new dual ball-joint neck design in the Black Series 6” line: both the joint entering the head and the joint entering the body are ball-jointed, allowing a slightly larger range of movement than the previous configuration. Re-released later in 2018 as Black Series #70 (id=15290) with fewer accessories. 19 joints.

The Dual Ball Neck

The neck articulation is the engineering note for the programme. Previous Black Series figures used a ball joint at the top and a swivel at the bottom. This Han introduced ball-at-top and ball-at-bottom — a subtler improvement but a genuine one for head positioning range.

Six Accessories

Gas mask — elastic strap, easy to place over the head and remove. The cave atmosphere of the Exogorth requires it.

Blaster — fits well in the holster and Han’s hands.

Removable jacket — the Bespin jacket body is a separate piece and can be taken off. The sleeves, however, are sculpted and painted onto the figure’s arms, so removing the jacket leaves the sleeves in place. Same limitation as the Skywalker Strikes Luke jacket.

Hydrospanner — the tool Han uses inside the Exogorth cavern. Fits well in both hands.

Pointing hand — an extra hand in a pointing/gesturing position. Important secondary market note: the reviewer accidentally discarded this accessory — it’s included in the box but easily overlooked or lost. Confirm it’s present on any loose purchase.

Mynock — the bat-like parasite from the asteroid field cavern. Wingspan is almost 6” long. No movable parts, but the sculpt is impressive. The Mynock is the defining piece of this set’s identity.

The Face and Paint

Photo-real face printing technology — described as phenomenal and life-like. Blue jacket, brown pants, and yellow trouser stripe all look great. The paint reads as a high-quality Bespin Han overall.

Secondary Market

SDCC July 2018. Six accessories: gas mask, blaster, removable jacket, hydrospanner, pointing hand (most easily lost), Mynock. Specifically confirm the pointing hand is present.

Verdict

Han Solo (Exogorth Escape) delivers a scene-specific ESB Han with the programme’s best face print at the time, a Mynock prop with impressive wingspan, and a novel gas mask for the asteroid cave display. The dual ball-neck is a worthwhile programme first. The sleeve-on jacket limitation is the shared note with other soft-goods figures.
