Overview
The Imperial Assault Tank Driver is a Toys’R’Us exclusive released September 30th 2016 at $19.99 — the Imperial combat driver operating the repulsorcraft assault tanks seen in the Jedha City sequence of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Known also as the Hovertank Pilot. 18 joints — ball-jointed neck, ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, upper body, hips, swivel thighs, swivel joints above and below knees, ball-jointed ankles.
The Figure
One blaster included: fits well in both hands. No removable parts on the armour. Hasbro applied a dirtied-up paint application — subtle weathering and dirt on the front and the back of the armour — giving the driver a field-worn appearance appropriate to a vehicle operator in the middle of the Jedha battle. Holds balance well including in more dynamic poses.
The Paint Accuracy Note
The source documentation flags that the paint application — particularly on the upper chest and shoulders — differs from what was visible in early Rogue One trailers. The trailers showed a different colour breakdown in those areas than what Hasbro produced. Whether this reflects a production change on the film’s side, an early reference discrepancy, or a Hasbro deviation is noted as unclear. Collectors who care about screen-accuracy should be aware of this.
Release History
Initially hard to find at Toys’R’Us at launch, but became plentiful on store shelves within several weeks. Also appeared in subsequent multi-packs (Jedha Revolt 4-Pack, id=4950) and was later rereleased in the Archive Collection (id=25931).
Secondary Market
Toys’R’Us, September 2016. One accessory: blaster.
Verdict
Imperial Assault Tank Driver is a solid Rogue One vehicle operator with good weathering and full articulation at standard pricing. The trailer-vs-figure paint discrepancy is a specific note for screen-accuracy collectors; for display purposes the dirty armour reads well regardless.
