Overview
Kylo Ren (Starkiller Base) is a K-Mart Holiday 2015 exclusive at $24.99 — a companion piece to the Rey (Starkiller Base) released several months later. Both figures share the Starkiller snow display base theme and their bases connect to create a combined duel scene. Several differences distinguish this version from the standard Black Series Kylo Ren: snow decoration on the robe and boots, a wider belt buckle, a different left hand sculpt, different lightsaber accessories, and a display base. 19 joints — ball-jointed neck and lower swivel neck, ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, upper body, hips, swivel thighs, swivel joints above and below knees, ball-jointed ankles.
The Key Accessory Difference
The most important distinction from the regular Black Series Kylo Ren: the lit cross-guard lightsaber blade is NOT removable on this version. The standard release (id=3455) has a removable blade; this one does not — the blade is fixed in the hilt. This version also includes a separate non-ignited lightsaber hilt that the standard release lacks. If blade-swapping for unlit/ignited display is important to you, the standard release is the better choice on that count.
The Display Base
The Starkiller snow base has two footprint indentations where Kylo’s boots can be placed — no peg holes, just footprints. It functions as a scene-specific display platform. Crucially, this base can be connected to Rey’s companion Starkiller bases to create a full combined display of the duel from The Force Awakens. The three-base combined configuration — Rey’s two bases plus this one — is the intended display centrepiece for the K-Mart Starkiller set.
Snow Deco and Costume
Snow application on the robe and boots creates the Starkiller Base battle-sequence look. The soft-goods robe looks good on the figure except for the hood, which stands up too much to sit naturally. The robe and plastic cape are both not truly removable without disassembling the figure. The plastic cape can be taken off. Head range of motion is limited because the plastic cape gets in the way. Belt is its own piece but not meant to be removed.
Secondary Market
K-Mart Holiday 2015. Verify accessories: display base, lit cross-guard lightsaber (fixed blade), non-ignited hilt, plastic cape (separate from the robe). If the base connects cleanly to Rey’s Starkiller bases (id=4761) on a loose combined set, that’s confirmation both are the right versions.
Verdict
Kylo Ren (Starkiller Base) is most compelling as part of the combined Starkiller duel display alongside Rey — the base connection feature is what makes the set worth having. The non-removable blade is an honest limitation versus the standard version. The snow deco and additional non-ignited hilt are the specific adds. Collectors who want the duel display configuration should track down both this and the Rey Starkiller companion.
