Overview
Kylo Ren (Unmasked) is a dual-venue July 2016 exclusive — released at both Star Wars Celebration Europe and San Diego Comic Con — at $34.99, with a limited run subsequently available through HasbroToyShop.com. Nine accessories makes this one of the most comprehensive single-character releases in Phase 3. The standout features are the swappable masked/unmasked head system, the melted Darth Vader helmet as a display prop, and a removable belt and cloak system. The source documentation describes it as an overall fantastic figure. 19 joints — ball-jointed neck, lower swivel neck, ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, upper body, hips, swivel thighs, swivel joints above and below knees, ball-jointed ankles.
The Nine Accessories
Kylo Ren helmet — pops off the neck to swap with the unmasked head. Easy swap in either direction. The two heads share the same neck peg.
Melted Darth Vader helmet — the burnt relic Kylo keeps in his quarters aboard the Finalizer. Flat on its back so it sits on a shelf without rolling. Beautifully rendered prop accessory.
Non-ignited lightsaber hilt — the belt has a hole on the right side where this hilt can be plugged in for belt-carried display.
Cross-guard lightsaber — full ignited configuration. Kylo holds both sabers well in each hand.
Display base — small and notably without pegs, so the figure isn’t secured to it. Positioning takes a little care.
First Order flag — unplugs from the base for standalone display.
Removable belt — the front of the belt can be opened, and once open the soft-goods cloak is accessible for removal.
Soft-goods cloak — not bulky. Works well on the figure.
Removable plastic cape — the smaller shoulder cape, separately removable.
Head Swap System
The helmeted and unmasked heads swap quickly and cleanly. Both look good — the unmasked head captures Adam Driver’s distinctive features (the large nose is specifically noted as well-rendered). The face paint was noted as needing a little more colour, but the sculpt itself reflects Driver’s appearance. The helmeted version is the primary display look for most collectors; the unmasked head is the display bonus that justifies the SDCC premium.
The Vader Helmet
The melted Vader helmet is described as looking fantastic. It’s a separate prop accessory that can be displayed alongside the figure or independently. The flat base design is a practical thoughtful detail — it won’t slide around or need a display stand.
Secondary Market
SDCC / Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 / HasbroToyShop.com. Verify all nine accessories. The melted Vader helmet and the First Order flag are the most distinctive and easily separated components.
Verdict
Kylo Ren (Unmasked) is the definitive Black Series Kylo — nine accessories, a clean head swap system, the melted Vader helmet as a display prop, and a functional cloak-removal system. At $34.99 for a figure with this accessory depth, the SDCC premium is well spent.
