Star Wars The Black Series — Comics & Expanded Universe Figures

Every Star Wars Black Series figure sourced from comics and the expanded universe. Covers the 2019 Doctor Aphra wave, the 50th Anniversary comics tier (Jaxxon, Carnor Jax, Mara Jade, Sergeant Kreel, Black Krrsantan and more), and the 2026 Star Wars Publishing figures.

Comics in the Black Series

Star Wars comics have been part of the franchise since 1977 — and a meaningful part of the Black Series since the line’s modern era. The original Marvel Star Wars run, the Dark Horse era, and the current Marvel series have collectively produced some of the most distinctive character designs outside the films, and Hasbro has periodically committed to bringing those designs into the 6” scale.

The comics tier of the Black Series covers three distinct periods: the Phase 3 Doctor Aphra wave from 2019, the 50th Anniversary comics sub-tier running 2021–2023, and the 2026 Star Wars Publishing figures. Across all three, the common thread is characters and configurations that exist only in print — designs you can’t get from any film or TV release.

Doctor Aphra Wave — 2019

The first dedicated comics wave in the modern Black Series. All four figures draw from Kieron Gillen’s Darth Vader series and the subsequent Doctor Aphra solo run — the corner of the Marvel era that introduced Aphra, her homicidal droid companions, and the specific tone of a Star Wars story that operates mostly outside the Rebel/Empire binary.

Doctor Aphra (2019) — The rogue archaeologist who becomes Vader’s field operative. First Black Series Aphra release.

BT-1 (Blastomech Droid) — Aphra’s assassin droid, modelled on an astromech frame but built entirely for destruction. The most visually distinctive figure in the wave.

0-0-0 (Triple Zero) — Protocol droid chassis repurposed for torture and interrogation. The counterpart to BT-1.

Doctor Aphra Comic Set 3-Pack — Aphra, 0-0-0, and BT-1 together in a dedicated set with comic-inspired packaging.

Legends Era Figures

A small group of figures from across the Legends continuity — the pre-2014 expanded universe that ran across novels, comics, and games before Disney’s acquisition reset the canon.

Jaina Solo (2017) — Han and Leia’s daughter, one of the most important Legends characters. Lightsaber and flight suit configuration.

Mara Jade Skywalker (2017) — The Emperor’s Hand turned Jedi Master, from Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire trilogy. The first Black Series Mara Jade.

50th Anniversary Comics Tier — 2021–2023

The largest single commitment to comics characters in Black Series history. The 50th Anniversary sub-line dedicated a full tier to figures from the expanded universe — Marvel’s original 1977–1986 run, the Star Wars Tales anthology, the modern Marvel era, and the Star Wars: Infinities what-if series. All released through Fan Channel or SDCC, in comic book inspired packaging.

Jaxxon (Marvel: Star Wars) — The Lepi smuggler from the 1977 Marvel run. Decades in the making; the most requested comics figure in Black Series history.

Darth Maul (Sith Apprentice) — Pre-Phantom Menace Maul from the Star Wars Tales anthology, cutting through Black Sun. Double-bladed lightsaber that splits into two.

Carnor Jax (Comic) — Imperial Guard member turned self-proclaimed Emperor from the Crimson Empire comics.

Luke Skywalker & Ysalamiri (Comic) — Luke with the Force-nullifying Ysalamiri lizard from Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy.

Infinities Darth Vader (Comic) — The all-white Vader from Star Wars: Infinities — Return of the Jedi, in which he turns from the dark side.

Princess Leia Organa (Comic) — Combat operative configuration from the 2015 Star Wars: Princess Leia miniseries.

Sergeant Kreel (Marvel: Star Wars) — SCAR Squadron leader and Force-sensitive Stormtrooper with a green lightsaber. The McQuarrie-esque concept that works.

Black Krrsantan (Marvel: Star Wars) — The Wookiee gladiator-turned-bounty hunter from Jason Aaron’s Darth Vader and Star Wars runs.

Boba Fett (In Disguise) — All-black nano-spray disguise from War of the Bounty Hunters. SDCC 2022 exclusive.

Doctor Aphra (Comic, 2023) — Second Black Series Aphra, with removable coat, flight cap, scarf, and blaster. Outstanding photo-real portrait.

Mara Jade (Dark Force Rising) — Emperor’s Hand turned smuggler, from Zahn’s Dark Force Rising. Purple lightsaber, blaster, removable harness and goggles.

SCAR Trooper Mic (Comic) — Task Force 99 member from Jason Aaron’s Star Wars run.

Also in the 50th Anniversary sub-line with comics sourcing:

Boba Fett (Star Wars: Droids) — Based on the 1985 animated Droids series.

Star Wars Publishing — 2026

The most recent comics commitment, framed under the Star Wars Publishing banner.

Cav (Task Force 99) — SCAR Squadron member.

Misty (Task Force 99) — SCAR Squadron member.

Why Comics in the Black Series Matter

Comics characters occupy a specific collector niche: they’re the designs that exist nowhere else. You can’t get a screen-accurate Jaxxon from a film release, a definitive Mara Jade from an animated series, or an Infinities Vader from anywhere but the Star Wars: Infinities comic. When Hasbro commits to a comics character, it’s the only 6” premium version that will likely ever exist — which makes these figures either exactly what a specific collector has been waiting for, or irrelevant depending on how deeply they read.

The 50th Anniversary comics tier is the most concentrated that commitment has ever been: fourteen figures across a two-year window drawing from sixty-plus years of Star Wars print publishing. For expanded universe collectors it was the sub-line’s most significant output. For everyone else it was a series of names they’d never heard of in comic book boxes.
